Vol. 367 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anti-Litter Film.

16.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total cost of producing the recent films and videos of litter entitled "On our own Doorstep"; the system of distribution; if all local authorities have been made aware of this film; the number of staff from his Department and the Environment Awareness Bureau that were involved in the production of this film and if he will make a statement on this situation.

The anti-litter film entitled "On Our Own Doorstep" was commisioned by the Environment Awareness Bureau. The cost of producing the film, including copies in video-cassette form, was £45,000 and this was funded jointly by the bureau, the local authorities and Bord Fáilte. Each county council and county borough corporation was provided with free copies of the video. Additional copies are made available to local authorities and to the public at a cost of £35 per copy. No staff from my Department or the Environment Awareness Bureau were involved in the production of the film, which was, I understand, produced by an independent film company.

Independent.

There is nothing to indicate that it is not.

Perhaps the Minister will let us know at his convenience.

I recognise the names of a number of the technical people who worked on the film and they are Irish.

The Minister did not appoint them to the board of RTE.
