Vol. 367 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Kildare By-Passes.

69.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects to be able to approve (a) the Newbridge by-pass and (b) the Kilcullen by-pass; when work is likely to commence on both these projects; and their likely completion dates.

On 3 June, I approved the Newbridge motorway scheme. The development of the proposals for the construction of the scheme is now primarily a matter for Kildare County Council. It is expected that construction will commence by the end of this year. The local authority anticipates that the construction period will be about three years.

The council is preparing proposals for a motorway scheme for the Kilcullen by-pass. In view of my quasi-judicial functions in the matter, the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment on the proposals at this stage.
