Vol. 367 No. 8

Written Answers. - Jail Sentences for Tax Offenders.

96.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any persons in this State have ever been convicted and sentenced to jail as a result of evasion or avoidance of payment of taxation; the number of such persons; and the action he proposes to take in present and future such cases.

In recent years jail sentences have been imposed in nine cases of evasion of taxes and duties under the care and management of the Revenue Commissioners. Jail sentences for tax offences will continue to be sought where appropriate.
