The vessels in question were arrested for alleged illegal mackerel fishing by the Scottish authorities on 13 December 1985, after the latter had been notified by the EC Commission in Brussels that the Irish mackerel quota for 1985 had been exhausted.
The charges against the skippers of the vessels in question were not subsequently proceeded with.
