Vol. 368 No. 1

Written Answers. - Archaeological Excavation.

95.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money allocated for archaeological excavation at Dowth and Knowth to date; the reasons these excavations have now ceased; and if it is his intention to provide adequate funds to recommence this work in the near future.

A total of £376,358 has been allocated for archaeological excavation at Knowth since the work began in 1962. Research excavations have not been done at Dowth and there are no immediate plans to initiate such a project; the excavations at Knowth will continue this year and an allocation of £8,700 has been made for this work; every effort will be made to provide adequate funds to continue the work to its conclusion in forthcoming seasons.
