Vol. 368 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Garda Strength.

166.

asked the Minister for Justice the present Garda strength serving Tallaght, County Dublin, including the number of mobile vehicles available to the gardaí serving Tallaght; whether any requests have been received from the Garda authorities there requesting additional staff, equipment or vehicles; if so, when such requests were received; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the current Garda strength at Tallaght is 73 and that the official transport allocated to the station comprises six vehicles, including two motor cycles. In addition, the two cars and the motor cycle based at the district headquarters at Rathfarnham operate in the Tallaght area as the need arises.

The allocation of Garda manpower and other resources as between the various stations is primarily a matter for the Garda authorities and it would not be appropriate for me to comment on applications made by local Garda officers to their authorities for additional resources. I can say, however, that the allocation of manpower, transport or other resources is the subject of continuing review between the Garda Authorities and the local Garda officers in the light of overall resources and demands on Garda services. In this connection the Garda authorities have given me to understand that it is proposed to increase the strength at Tallaght when the next group of recruits complete basic training in September next.
