Vol. 368 No. 2

Written Answers. - Central Fisheries Board Headquarters.

77.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry, if arising out of the statement made by the Minister for Fisheries in 1980, that the Central Fisheries Board Headquarters would be established in Galway, it is his intention to establish the headquarters in Galway city; and, if so, if he will now give a time-scale for the establishment of this headquarters.

78.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry whether there has been any change in his decision to have the headquarters of the Central Fisheries Board located in Galway city; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 77 and 78 together. The policy in relation to locating the headquarters of the Central Fisheries Board in Galway has not been changed. Due to the less favourable economic situation which has arisen in the meantime, including particularly the need for constraints on public expenditure as well as difficulties to be negotiated in relation to the transfer of the staff of the board from Dublin to Galway, the implementation of the decision has been delayed. I am unable to say at this stage when the move to Galway can take place.
