Vol. 368 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dundalk Lorry Parking Area.

1.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide the necessary finance for the Office of Public Works to tarmacadam the lorry parking area adjacent to the customs clearance offices at Newry Road, Dundalk, because of the serious health hazard being caused to people living in the vicinity from dust in dry weather.

There is no provision in Vote 10, Office of Public Works and Buildings, for the carrying out of this work in 1986. The provision of funds for the work in 1987 will be considered in the context of the 1987 Estimates.

Would the Minister agree that many of the clearance stations have no adequate parking space and that the surfacing as in this case leaves a lot to be desired and is not at an acceptable standard?

Does the Minister agree that this is one area where there should be close examination, especially at those crossings, as to how to facilitate additional parking and the general throughput of traffic?
