Vol. 368 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Cork School.

258.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in updating Araglen national school, Kilworth, County Cork; when a general purpose room will be built which is a very important facility for children; when new sanitary facilities will be provided; and his views on existing services being out of date and being condemned by the health board.

My Department has agreed to grant aid the erection of an extension to Araglen national school, County Cork, which will comprise a general purpose room, a classroom and a teachers' room. The proposals also include the provision of two enlarged classrooms, a library-medical room, stores and new toilet suites.

The sketch plans have been sent to the school authorities to enable them to secure local authority planning permission. My Department's professional advisers have meanwhile been asked for a report and recommendations concerning the existing toilet facilities and when these have come to hand my Department will be in touch with the school authorities.

I am not in a position at this stage to say when building works, which would include the new sanitary facilities, may commence.
