Vol. 368 No. 8

Written Answers. - Lead-Free Petrol.

126.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to make lead-free petrol available to the general public in this country and, if so, if he anticipates a price differential between such petrol and that on general sale.

Council Directive 85/210/EEC requires member states to ensure the availability of unleaded petrol and its balanced distribution within their territories by 1 October 1989. The necessary arrangements will be assisted by an interdepartmental steering group which I recently initiated. Pricing policy for unleaded petrol in this country has not yet been determined.
