Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tainted Salmon

227.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if the cause of tainted salmon taken from the River Foyle in July 1986 has yet been established; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Foyle Fisheries Commission have informed me that despite comprehensive analytical investigations it has not yet been possible to establish what caused the tainting of salmon in certain areas in the River Foyle on or about 8-9 July last. However, it appears from investigations carried out by the commission that the problem was confined to a small portion of the river, was of limited duration and that not all the salmon in the area were affected.
