Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Exchequer Returns.

268.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate under what subtotal in Government tax statistics returns from the following items are included: (a) income tax paid by building societies; (b) the levy on insurance companies; (c) the levy on banks; and (d) the deposit interest retention tax.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the Exchequer returns, published weekly in Iris Oifigiúil. Income tax currently collected from the building societies is included under the income tax heading (this will be subsumed in the deposit interest retention tax in due course). Receipts from the levies on insurance companies and banks are included under stamp duties. The yield from the deposit interest retention tax will be included under the income tax heading.
