Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sligo General Hospital.

304.

asked the Minister for Health when it is expected that tenders will be sought for the extension to the General Hospital in Sligo; when work will commence on the site; the total funds allocated to the project; the period of time it will take to complete the work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have now issued approval to the North Western Health Board to go to tender for the extension to Sligo General hospital. Building work should be ready to commence within six months.

The total estimated cost of the project is of the order of £43 million. The contract period will be about four years.

The main part of this development will consist of the construction of a multi-storey block which will include accommodation for X-ray, accident and emergency, obstetrics, medicine and surgery, operating theatre and intensive care. The scheme will also include adaptations to the existing hospital buildings to provide facilities in areas such as out-patient, pharmacy and pathology.
