Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Devaluation of Green Pound.

383.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has any arrangement to ensure that the full green pound adjustment is passed on to farmers by meat plants.

Prices paid by meat factories are for negotiation between buyers and sellers and I have no direct function in the matter.

However because the prices being paid for cattle by the meat factories following the devaluation of the green rate did not appear to reflect the impact of the devaluation I expressed dissatisfaction with those prices. I indicated that I expected that all purchasers of cattle who were obtaining considerable financial benefits from the devaluation of the green rate should pass on those benefits to farmers selling cattle.
