Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Piercetown (Wexford) School.

437.

asked the Minister for Education when the extension to Piercetown national school, County Wexford, incorporating a general purposes room and two extra classrooms will be built; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The allocation of funds for the provision of grants for the proposed extension to Piercetown national school, County Wexford, was conditional on the 1986 capital allocation to my Department for national school building being sufficient to meet all grant payments likely to arise in that year in the event of work starting during the course of the year. It transpired that, due to the rapid and unforeseen pace of work on national school building projects already in progress on earlier authorisations, the condition in question could not be met. The question of according a priority place for this project in the allocations in connection with the 1987 capital provision and a rescheduling of the commencement of the project are having my active attention, and my Department will be in touch with the school authorities as soon as fresh arrangements can be made.
