Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Expenditure on Imported Goods.

32.

asked the Taoiseach the percentage of income spent on: (a) home produced goods and (b) imported goods.

Relevant available information comes from the national accounts estimates and the external trade statistics. Estimates for 1984 are as follows:

£ billion

Per Cent

(1) Total personal income after direct taxes

11.5

100

(2) Personal consumption expenditure on all goods whether home produced or imported at market prices

6.7

58

(3) Value of imported consumption goods ready for use at import prices included implicitly in (2)

2.1

18

The figure at (2) for personal consumption expenditure on goods includes indirect taxes and distributive mark-ups while imports are valued c.i.f. at point of entry. The figure at (3) does not include the import content of home produced goods.
