asked the Minister for the Environment the number of people who have been (a) killed and (b) injured in motor accidents this year to the latest date for which figures are available.

Provisional figures for the eight months ended 31 August 1986 show that 228 persons were killed and 4,866 injured in road accidents in this country. These figures represent a reduction in the corresponding figures of 276 and 5,131, respectively, for the same period in 1985.
