Vol. 369 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant and Mortgage Subsidy Payments.

47.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department will consider the possibility of making a special grant available for the provision of necessary facilities for disabled persons generally where a new house is being built.

The conditions applicable at present to the payment of housing grants do not permit the payment of a special grant in the circumstances outlined in the question.

48.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a mortgage subsidy payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Payment of the subsidy cannot commence until the relevant claim form for the first instalment which was recently issued to the applicant is returned to the Department, duly completed and certified by the lending agency.

49.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant inspection will be carried out for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

An inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks.

50.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will increase the home improvement grant allocated to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 in view of the great difference between the builder's estimate and that of his Department.

Under the conditions of the scheme house improvement grants are based on the cost as estimated by the Department using standard costings and not on the builders' estimates. On this basis the maximum grant allowable in this case is £1,610 and this has been approved.

51.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will review the amount of a home improvement grant awarded to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 in view of the overall cost of the work which was approved initially by his Department's inspector.

In the circumstances I am arranging to have this case looked at specially and I will write to the Deputy as soon as possible to let him know the outcome.

52.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the payment of a house improvement grant to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

There has been no undue delay. The grant will be paid within the next few weeks.

53.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway has only been approved for a £2,000 house improvement grant under the old scheme; and if he will make immediate arrangements for the approval of new grants for the construction of a bathroom and bedroom.

There is no record of the receipt of an application form for a house improvement grant from the person named.
