Vol. 369 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Galway Oyster Beds.

76.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if he will give details of the progress being made on the development of St. George Oyster Beds, Clarenbridge, County Galway; the amount of money spent to date on development of the beds, and his proposals for the next 12 months.

As indicated to the Deputy in my reply on 22 April this year, work commenced in 1983 on a three year biological and hydrographic assessment of the St. George oyster bed in conjunction with the Department of Oceanography, University College, Galway. The total expenditure to date is £19,000. It is expected that the results of this survey will be available in December 1986 and depending on the results and subject to the availability of funds, work on the development of the bed could commence next year.
