Particulars of certain excesses which have been incurred by bodies or agencies under the aegis of my Department are contained in the following table. These excesses have not given rise to any increase in my Department's Vote in any of the years in question.
No body or agency under the aegis of my Department has sought approval for loans to finance excess expenditure.
The Deputy will be aware that separate provision has been made for the payment to CIE of £3 million per annum for the purpose of repaying the principal of a loan of £30 million provided for in the Transport Act, 1985. This loan was raised for the purpose of eliminating £30 million out of £36 million of temporary borrowings incurred by CIE to meet shortfalls in subvention payments prior to 1984.
