Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - Plas Mhuire CBS (Dublin) School.

203.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider the specific and unique problems of Plas Mhuire CBS in Dublin 7 and consider including them on the extended list of disadvantaged schools; if he is aware of the very serious problems at present facing the school; and if he will outline the action he proposes to take to deal with the rising concern about the future of this school.

Plas Mhuire CBS is a designated school under the scheme of special teaching assistance for schools serving disadvantaged areas. Current staffing is principal, five assistants and a remedial teacher. This excludes a teacher who is serving in the school in a redundant capacity while awaiting placement in another school under the panel regulations. The pupil-teacher ratio is approximately 18 : 1. Current enrolment averages are sufficient to retain a staff of principal and three assistants only. In the circumstances I am satisfied that the staffing arrangements are very favourable even by reference to other schools serving disadvantaged areas.
