Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Tipperay Remedial Works Scheme.

82.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals he has for the repair and renovation of houses at Castlequarter, Killenaule; Woodview, Cahir, County Tipperary and also in respect of four houses in Clerihan, Clonmel; the nature of work to be carried out; the cost involved; when proposals were made to his Department; when money will be sanctioned to commence the work involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Applications for assistance under the remedial works scheme were received in March 1985 from Tipperary (SR) County Council in respect of its rented houses at Castlequarter and Woodview. I have received no application in respect of houses at Clerihan.

The Castlequarter proposal involves the construction of an external blockwork skin and pitched roof and ancillary works at an estimated cost of £640,000. The project was approved in principle on 28 February 1986 and the local authority was requested to prepare the necessary technical documentation with a view to carrying out a pilot scheme. This documentation is at present being examined in my Department.

The works required to the houses at Woodview involve roof replacement, the construction of new gable walls and ancillary works at an estimated cost of £378,000. The local authority's proposals to carry out these works required revision in light of experience with a pilot project on a similar scheme. Revised documentation is being examined in my Department and I hope to make a decision in regard to allowing the authority to seek tenders in the near future for a pilot scheme.
