Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tourism Amenity Developments.

104.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if there are any proposals either through his Department or through EC funding to give grant aid to tourism amenity developments such as pitch and putt, golf courses or for ancillary developments to self-catering accommodation such as cafeterias or launderettes; if so, when a decision will be made on this matter; and the rate at which the grants would apply.

Bord Fáilte under its capital development grant scheme currently provides assistance towards the development of a wide range of tourism amenities. Grants of up to 35 per cent of eligible capital costs can be made. Golf courses are not, however, assisted under the scheme as it is considered that there is already sufficient golfing capacity in the country to cater for visitor needs.
