Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - Stamp Duties.

112.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost to the Exchequer of having a sole rate of stamp duty of 1 per cent.

It is assumed that the question refers to stamp duty on conveyances of land and property. On this basis, I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the estimated cost to the Exchequer of having a sole rate of stamp duty of 1 per cent would be £39 million in a full year.

113.

asked the Minister for Finance the total take in stamp duties from the purchase of houses for the years 1982 to 1985, inclusive.

A deed of transfer does not, normally, give details of buildings which may have been erected on the land comprised in the transfer. Statistics in relation to those buildings, including houses, are, therefore, not available.
