Vol. 369 No. 4

Written Answers. - Shannon Community Complex.

120.

asked the Minister for Education if he will sanction a grant for Shannon community complex; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for a capital grant in respect of Shannon Recreational and Community Centre Limited was received in March 1985.

In view of the very considerable estimated cost of the initial phase of the development and considering the absence, in the proposals made, of evidence of a readily available substantial local financial contribution, my Department was not in a position to give favourable consideration to this application. In May 1985 the project organisers were advised by my Department that under the terms and conditions of the relevant scheme it was not possible to assist their proposal.

It is open to the project organisers in this instance to submit a revised application to my Department, if they so wish, for consideration in the context of whatever funds may be available to enable the extension of the scheme to further projects in the coming year.
