Vol. 369 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Maritime Museum.

34.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the storm danage done to the national maritime museum in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin; if he is further aware that the local authority intends levying a sum of £1,945, by way of rates annually; and the action, if any he will take on the matter.

I understand that as a result of the recent storm the museum suffered damage to its roof. So as to enable the institute to carry out the necessary repairs and other works of improvement and in recognition of the important voluntary work of the institute I am arranging to grant aid them from my Department to the extent of £5,000. On the question of rates I understand that the institute is pursuing the question of the valuation of the museum — on which the rates are based — through the Circuit Court. I have no function in that matter.
