Vol. 369 No. 5

Written Answers. - Westport New National School.

157.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a new national school for Westport, County Mayo.

My Department has agreed in principle to grant-aid a new national school to replace the existing national school building at The Quay, Westport which I understand to be the school referred to by the Deputy. Sketch plans prepared by the architects engaged by the school authorities have been submitted to my Department and are being examined by my Department's professional officers. The outcome will be conveyed to the school authorities as soon as possible. On acceptance of the plans as satisfactory, the stage of planning immediately following will be to seek agreement on a suitable local contribution, so that my Department may formally sanction a grant for the project.
