asked the Minister for Finance the net disposable income after income tax and the appropriate PRSI for an average industrial worker (earnings of men and women combined) of (1) married with two children, spouse not working, and (2) single, at the end of each year from 1975 to 1985, inclusive; and if he will give the percentage change on the previous year and the CPI change.

The information requested is as follows:

Notes:

(1) It is assumed that no tax reliefs or allowances are available other than the personal allowance, PAYE allowance, PRSI allowance and child allowance (in the case of the married taxpayer).

(2) The figures for net disposable income are derived from the December entries in the CSO series "Gross Earnings and Hours Worked by all Industrial Workers (Men, Women, Youths and Girls combined)". Figures for men and women only are not available. The CSO data for transportable goods industries were used.

(3) For 1975 and 1976, the September earnings figures from the CSO series were used. This was necessary to ensure proper comparability in the table given above. The December earnings figures for 1975 and 1976 in the CSO series were calculated on a different basis.
