Vol. 369 No. 5

Written Answers. - Kidney Unit for Tralee Regional Hospital, Co. Kerry.

109.

asked the Minister for Health the up-to-date position regarding the provision of a kidney unit for Tralee Regional Hospital, County Kerry; and if any consultation has taken place with the Southern Health Board regarding the situation.

At its meeting on 5 May 1986 the Southern Health Board passed a resolution that the board make a formal application to my Department for the establishment of a satellite dialysis unit at Tralee General Hospital. This was done and arising from it officials of my Department have been in communication with officials of the board concerning the Department's guidelines for the establishment of a unit of this nature.

On the basis of this information I understand that the board is at present investigating the requirements and cost of establishing a viable dialysis unit for submission to my Department. When I receive this I will give it very careful consideration.
