Vol. 369 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grants for Fencing.

139.

asked the Minister for Agriculture in view of the many benefits of fencing towards hill stock management and disease prevention, if he will consider the granting of aid towards fencing on its own right under the mountain and hill pasture improvement scheme.

The objective of the scheme referred to by the Deputy is the improvement of mountain and hill pasture land by way of reclamation, liming, fertilising and reseeding and — where necessary — fencing and the provision of access roads. It is not considered that the overall objective of the scheme would be realised if fencing were to be grant aided as a separate element.
