Vol. 369 No. 6

Written Answers. - Warrants and Extraditions.

133.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of warrants received and the number of persons extradited to: (a) the USA, (b) Great Britain and (c) Northern Ireland for each year from 1982 to date; and if he will state in respect of each category the number who were Irish citizens.

The following tabulated statement shows the number of persons for whom extradition warrants were received and the number of persons extradited.

It can happen that more than one warrant is received in respect of a particular individual but the relevant statistics are not compiled in a way that shows the number of warrants as distinct from the number of persons.

It would not be possible without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time to compile this information or the information sought in regard to the number who were Irish citizens. An additional difficulty is that the documentation supplied to the Garda would not necessarily show the citizenship of the persons involved.
