Vol. 369 No. 6

Written Answers. - Limerick New Unemployment Centre.

144.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the difficulties being experienced by the Limerick Council of Trade Unions in the establishment of an unemployment centre in Limerick city and that this delay is costing them inordinately; the measures he will take to help in this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A number of applications to avail of the social employment scheme to assist in the establishment of centres for the unemployed was received by my Department. Such centres are also being assisted by the Youth Employment Agency.

Discussions on the general questions raised by the applications were held between my Department, the Youth Employment Agency and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. Agreement has now been reached on how the applications should be processed and the local office of the National Manpower Service will be in touch very shortly with the Limerick Council of Trade Unions about their application.
