(Limerick West) asked the Taoiseach the percentage of the workforce employed in: 1. Agriculture; and 2. Agriculture-related industries in each of the EC member states; and the figure for the EC average.

The following table shows the percentage of the total working population who were at work in agriculture in each EC member state in 1985, together with a percentage for the 12 member states combined.

There are no corresponding data available in respect of "agriculture related industries" which is not identified as a separate sector in economic activity classifications. Agriculture related activities extend across a number of different sectors, food processing, chemicals, transport, etc., none of which are exclusively devoted to such activities.
