asked the Minister for Finance the total amount outstanding in relation to the 1 per cent income levy from (a) self-employed, and (b) farmers, in respect of each year since the levy was introduced.

The estimated amount of income levy outstanding at 30 September 1986 from farmers and other self-employed individuals in respect of the tax years 1983-84. 1984-86 is set out below. These are no more than estimates and on the basis of previous experience the amounts shown will be subject to downward revision on closer examination, on appeal, and for various other reasons, and the figures will change accordingly.

The following table gives an estimate of the amounts of income levy likely to be collected from farmers and other self-employed in respect of these years. These figures indicate the actual amounts likely to be due, when investigation is complete.

For the tax year 1983-84 income levy from full time farmers was collectable by the health boards. Information on the amount of income levy outstanding from full time farmers for 1983-84 is not available at present. If the Deputy puts down a question on this aspect in one week's time the information sought will then be provided.
