Vol. 369 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Levy.

97.

asked the Minister for Health the total amount outstanding in relation to the health levy from (a) farmers and (b) self-employed, in respect of each year since the levy was introduced.

The records maintained in my Department and in the Office of the Revenue Commissioners do not allow the supply of information in the form requested by the Deputy. However, as at 30 September 1986 a total of £6,948,957 was outstanding from the farming sector in relation to demands issued by health boards covering the period 1 October 1971 to 5 April 1984. As of year end 1984 these arrears amount to £10.5 million. The arrears now being collected by the health boards are allocated directly to the budgets of the boards.

As at 30 September 1986 a total of £32.8 million was outstanding from the self-employed (including farmers as from 6 April 1984) on foot of demands issued by the Revenue Commissioners.
