Vol. 369 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tipperary Consultant Orthodontist.

101.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the approved post of full-time consultant orthodontist has not yet been filled by the South-Eastern Health Board; and if he is also aware of the singularly bad situation in South Tipperary where so many children are awaiting treatment, the parents of whom cannot afford the expensive specialised treatment by private practitioners.

I am aware that there is a considerable waiting list for orthodontic treatment in South Tipperary. The post of consultant orthodontist in the South Eastern Health Board has been advertised unsuccessfully on six occasions in the past three years, the most recent advertisement being in September 1986. The health board will continue in its endeavours to fill the consultant orthodontist post but it is also examining alternative means of providing an adequate orthodontic service for eligible persons.
