Vol. 369 No. 6

Written Answers. - Lime Subsidy.

132.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture in the light of the importance of lime application to ensure the optimum production on our grassland, if he considers that it may be appropriate to reintroduce the lime subsidy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no funds available for the introduction of a new ground limestone subsidy scheme. Lime is a relatively low cost farm input and it should be possible for farmers to apply the requisite quantities in order to maintain satisfactory levels of soil fertility.
