Vol. 369 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Funds.

54.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she is satisfied that social welfare funds are sufficiently secure in distribution outlets throughout the country; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The systems and controls which are deemed to be necessary to ensure adequate security for social welfare funds at offices at which cash payments are made is a matter of ongoing close liaison between the crime prevention units of the Garda Síochána, the Office of Public Works and the Department of Social Welfare.

New measures to improve security are constantly being introduced. The Deputy may be assured that every effort is being made to provide the maximum standard in security not only in respect of funds but for the overall safety of applicants and staff at the offices concerned.
