Vol. 369 No. 7

Written Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

55.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she will have the case of unemployment benefit for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath urgently reviewed.

A claimant for unemployment benefit who is a landholder and whose income from his holding exceeds £4 daily is not entitled to unemployment benefit unless he satisfies the contribution condition of having 78 paid contributions in a three year period preceding the claim.

The person concerned, who is a landholder, claimed unemployment benefit from 6 August 1986, but did not satisfy the contribution condition of having 78 paid contributions in the three year period. The profit from his holding exceeded £4 daily and accordingly, his unemployment benefit claim was disallowed by a deciding officer. He has been advised of this decision and of his right to appeal if he so wishes.

In the meantime he is in receipt of unemployment assistance of £30.10 weekly, being the appropriate maximum rate payable in his case of £79.90, less means of £49.80. Weekly payments of £30.10 will continue to be made as they become due.
