Vol. 369 No. 9

Written Answers. - Athlone Hospital Improvements.

31.

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding the promised improvements to Athlone Hospital, viz the provision of an industrial casualty unit, and progress towards an integrated GP access system.

Some of the promised improvements at the district hospital Athlone have already been implemented and the remainder are being actively pursued. In relation to the specific items mentioned by the Deputy, I understand from the Midland Health Board that discussions have taken place with industrialists and general practitioners on the establishment of an industrial medical unit, and that the general practitioner access unit, which will provide 24-hour casualty cover, will be set up on the retirement of the present medical officer.
