Vol. 369 No. 9

Written Answers. - Health Agencies Allocations.

37.

asked the Minister for Health if expenditure on the Health Services in 1985-86 was in line with projections in the Government's economic plan; and if he intends taking action on the matter.

The allocations approved for health agencies in 1985 and 1986 were framed in the context of the overall sum voted for health in each of the years. My Department's letters of allocation in 1985 required agencies to take action where appropriate to contain expenditure within the approved limits. However, the annual effect of some of the measures identified did not impact on expenditure until 1986, resulting in some cases in expenditure exceeding the approved level. In these cases, action has been taken to eliminate the excesses on a phased basis. In 1986 agencies have again been advised of the need to contain expenditure within the allocation approved.
