Vol. 369 No. 11

Written Answers. - Feed Barley Exports.

160.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the substantial exports of feed barley will: (a) cause a shortage of barley or (b) increase animal feed prices over the coming winter months.

While there has been an increase in the quantity of feed barley exported over the past few months, present indications are that, should average weather conditions obtain, adequate supplies will be available for inclusion in animal feed during the coming months. Accordingly, barley exports at current levels should not result in increased feed prices. Should barley prices surpass the intervention price I shall consider the possibility of releasing stocks of barley from intervention.
