My Department has received three applications for assistance under the capital grants scheme for the construction of recreational facilities in respect of projects located in County Laois.
These projects were not among the limited number allocated financial assistance this year in accordance with the requirements and conditions of the scheme.
In view of the great number of capital grant applications for consideration by my Department and pending decision in regard to the financial provision for this service — particularly in relation to the availability of funds for new projects — for the coming year, it was decided that no useful purpose would be served by accepting further grant applications at the present time. This matter will be reviewed early in 1987.
