Vol. 369 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Monaghan Block Grants.

100.

asked the Minister for the Environment when authority was granted to Monaghan County Council to commence work on the national primary road No. 2 at Fletcher's Cross, Broomfield; the total amount of money allocated by his Department in 1986 to this scheme; and the amount which has been committed for this project in 1987 and 1988.

Departmental approval to commence work on this scheme, which will be fully financed from road grants, will arise when acceptable detailed engineering proposals for the work are submitted by Monaghan County Council. No such proposals have yet been received in my Department.

This year a road grant commitment of £250,000 was notified to the local authority for the scheme. I am not yet in a position to say what grants will be committed to individual road improvement schemes in 1987 or later years. Commitments for 1987 will be made following the determination of the overall provision for road improvement grants in the context of next year's budget.
