Vol. 369 No. 11

Written Answers. - Monaghan-Cavan Forestry Development.

111.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the plans he has for the further development of forestry in Counties Monaghan and Cavan.

Progress in the State afforestation programme in the counties referred to is mainly dependent on the amount of land which my Department can acquire for that purpose. offers of land suitable for forestry in Counties Cavan and Monaghan have been limited in number and in area, but those which have come to hand have been given full consideration by my Department as will any future offers. There is, however, considerable scope for private forestry in these counties for which very favourable grants are available under the terms of the western package scheme.

112.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the number of persons employed in each forest unit in Counties Monaghan and Cavan.
