Vol. 369 No. 12

Written Answers. - Transfer of Prisoner.

34.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has received any response from the British authorities regarding the request of the family of the prisoner (details supplied) that he be transferred from Wakefield prison to a London prison; and if he will also request the British authorities to consider the transfer of this prisoner to a prison in Ireland under the convention of the transfer of sentenced persons.

On my instructions the Embassy in London has made representations concerning this prisoner's request for a transfer. I am still awaiting a response from the British authorities.

The Council of Europe Convention on Transfer of Sentenced Persons was signed by this country on 20 August 1986 but has not yet been ratified.
