Vol. 369 No. 12

Written Answers. - Disabled Persons Grants.

40.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the problem being created for applicants for disabled persons grants in Mayo by reason of the non-payment of money to Mayo County Council by his Department; and if he will take steps to ensure that this money is forwarded to the council to enable them to pay applicants.

I am not so aware. Disabled persons grants are paid by local authorities and part of the amount paid is subsequently recouped by the authorities from the Department. Generally, recoupment claims from the authorities under the disabled persons scheme are processed by my Department as quickly as possible. Claims by Mayo County Council are being processed and will be paid shortly.
