Vol. 370 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Youth Training Programmes.

5.

asked the Minister for Education the reason youth employment programmes are not available to students from the Republic and particularly to students who wish to pursue courses not available to them in the Republic; the steps he proposes to take to rectify the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The youth training programmes in question are operated by the Northern Ireland authorities and, accordingly, the question of their availability to students from the Republic of Ireland is not a matter that falls within my responsibilities.

I have, however, asked my colleague the Minister for Foreign Affairs to make inquiries in the matter with the Northern Ireland authorities and the results of these inquiries will be convened to the Deputy in due course.
