Vol. 370 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level College Points System.

24.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the widespread confusion caused by the different systems operated by varying third level colleges, he has any proposals to streamline the entrance arrangements for third level college for 1987.

The entry requirements to the various courses in third level colleges are a matter for the authorities of the individual colleges and relevant validating body where appropriate. I would accept that the different requirements may cause an element of confusion for parents and prospective students and accordingly I am having this whole matter examined in my Department. I do not know at this stage where changes will be possible and in any event the examination of the matter, which is quite complex, would not be completed in time to make changes in the procedures for 1987.
