Vol. 370 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway School Improvements.

25.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding proposed improvements to Ardmore national school, Kilkerrin, County Galway.

My Department has agreed to grant aid the provision of a new roof and of new toilets at Ardmore national school, Kilkerrin, County Galway. Tenders for the proposals have been forwarded by the school authorities, and these are being examined in my Department.

It is expected that a contract for the roof can be authories at an early date.

I understand that difficulties have arisen in regard to the sewage disposal arrangements for the school. This prolem is primarily a matter for resolution by the school authorities, who in the meantime would not be in a position to proceed with this part of the work.

26.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make the necessary finance available immediately for the building of an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; the date on which work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would invite the Deputy's attention to my reply of 23 April last to Question No. 18 tabled by him. The school to which he now refers is one of the cases referred to therein as being still under examination. Discussions between officials of my Department and the various education authorities in County Galway are continuing with a view to retionalising the post-primary facilities in the centre, in the interests of all the pupils of the centre and its catchment area. These discussions will be brought to conclusion as quickly as possible.

The question of financial provision for any building at the centre must await the outcome of these discussions.
